Dr. Zia Durrani is an anesthesiologist who holds board certification through the American Board of Medical Specialties in Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. He also holds triple board certification through the American Board of Pain Medicine. His passionate interest in pain management lead him to a neurosurgical residency after completing his anesthesia training and practicing in anesthesiology for a few years. At this time there were no fellowships in pain management. Through his neurosurgical experience he gained added insight into the broad field of pain medicine.
A consummate educator, Dr. Durrani has nearly 3 decades of teaching anesthesiology and pain management. The majority of this time was spent teaching pain fellows at the University of Illinois Cook County and at Rush University where he enjoyed associate professor status. Having trained over 100 pain fellows and close to 1000 anesthesia residents, many of the local pain physicians in the Chicago and regional Midwest area were his students.
